The Start and Improve Your Green Construction Business Training
MSMEs and emerging entrepreneurs are rarely reached by the already established construction training institutions operating in the green construction sector. This is due to high fragmentation in the sector and a strong focus on higher tier companies.
In order to respond to these needs and bridge the knowledge and skills gap among MSME needed to enter the green construction market, the ILO has developed a training tool to promote entrepreneurship and business development in green construction. The Start and Improve Your Green Construction Business (SIYGCB) training package targets developing and established entrepreneurs to build an environmentally sustainable construction business. It is based on the Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB) training package, a management training programme which focuses on small business start-up and improvement as a strategy for creating more and better employment in developing economies and economies in transition.
The training programme has a modular structure that can be tailored according to the needs and prior knowledge of the trainees. It also allows for flexibility in the target audience, be it experienced owner managers that want to acquire specific skills and knowledge on how to green their existing enterprises, or stimulating these entrepreneurs to generate innovative ideas for their businesses. It also targets emerging entrepreneurs in green construction, providing guidance on how to enter this sector. The modules cover basically the whole spectrum of green construction business development, from providing a business case for green construction to basic business management principles such as book keeping and marketing.
